World Silent Day 21 March

Dear People of the Earth,
On 23 March 2012 Bali, otherwise known as the island of paradise, will be silent and dark. The International Airport will be closed for 24 hours; no people or vehicle will pass by ont he roads, in the entire island. Lights will be off, except in houses where there are infants, in the police station and in hospitals. This is a common sight annually in Bali to mark the Saka New Year, known as Tapa Brata Penyepian or The Silent Ritual (NYEPI) . During Nyepi, Bali reduces 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide emission.
This year the World Silent Day Team takes you again on a JOURNEY OF SILENCE FOR THE EARTH on 21 March 2012. We remind you of the simple steps:
Wednesday 21 March 2012
Only four hours: 10.am -2 pm, or choose your own timings.
Switch off electronic appliances, reduce use of motor vehicles and activities that use up a lot of resources, plant trees, build relations with families, colleague and neighbours.
Write your silent experience to mysilent@worldsilentday.org.
This will reduce global warming based on community and group actions. If for some reason you cannot participate on March 21, you can still be silent on March 23 together with the Bali community.
